Granadilla Council Builds €2.9M Modular Car Park in El Médano
The Granadilla de Abona City Council is investing over €2.9 million in a new 160-space modular car park in El Médano to alleviate traffic congestion and improve parking in the popular coastal town.
The Granadilla de Abona City Council is building a new modular car park in El Médano. This project, costing over 2.9 million euros, is a key part of the council's plan to tackle the growing problem of too many cars in this popular coastal town. It's a modern approach to urban planning, offering a quick and flexible solution for busy areas where traditional car parks can't keep up with the number of residents and tourists.
The car park will have 160 spaces and will be built on Tenerife Street, next to the football field. Mayor José Domingo Regalado explained that this project is designed to ease traffic and make parking easier in El Médano. It's an innovative and adaptable way to reduce congestion and improve life for both locals and visitors. By placing it on the edge of town, the aim is to encourage smoother, more eco-friendly traffic flow, a common strategy in towns that attract many visitors.
The car park will be built using prefabricated modular parts. This means it can be taken apart, expanded, reused, and is environmentally friendly and recyclable. This flexibility allows it to be adapted for future needs or even moved to other locations in the municipality. The building will cover 2,155 square meters and have two levels plus a roof that people can walk on. Technically, it will be made of steel parts bolted together, not welded, following European standards. The steel will be galvanized to last over fifty years, even in the harsh coastal environment.
Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, the Councillor for Public Works, highlighted that the car park's design uses advanced engineering, ensuring it is strong, long-lasting, and can be built quickly. Out of the 160 spaces, six will be for people with disabilities and five for electric vehicles. The facility will also have an accessible elevator, non-slip metal stairs, and areas for control and services. There are also plans to install solar panels on the roof, showing the council's commitment to saving energy and protecting the environment. The council has also announced plans for a second car park on Magallanes Avenue, near the M3 sports center, indicating a long-term strategy for managing traffic and parking in the area.
