A city bus will be launched in Granadilla de Abona in 2026.
Granadilla de Abona plans to launch three new bus routes by 2026 to improve transport links between remote areas and the city center.
Granadilla de Abona will have its own city bus! Local authorities are already working on this and plan to launch three bus routes.
One route will connect Cruz de Tea, Charco del Pino, Los Llanos, El Salto, El Draguito, and the center of Granadilla. The second will connect Vicácaro, La Higuera, the center, Los Blanquitos, El Desierto, Chimiche, Las Rosas, and Las Vegas. And the third route will pass through San Isidro, La Vagüada, Castro, Atogo, Casablanca, Chuchurumbeche, and stop at the roundabout in San Isidro.
These buses will help residents move around the city more conveniently and get from remote areas to the main stops in the center of Granadilla and in San Isidro. The authorities want the bus schedule to be convenient for all residents.
Together with the transport company Titsa, the city council plans to launch a test mode in the second quarter of next year. It is expected that in 2026 the city will have a modern and convenient bus network that takes into account the needs of the people.
The project began to be developed back in 2022, when the city council decided to acquire shares of Titsa. The main goal is to provide transport to those areas where it is currently difficult to get to by public transport.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the project will be about 400,000 euros. This money will be allocated by the city council of Granadilla de Abona. It is planned that the new routes will carry about 90,000 passengers per year.
The mayor of the city, José Domingo Regalado, says that "buses should run throughout the city, and this project is a response to a long-standing request from residents." He also emphasized that "all residents should have equal opportunities to move around, regardless of where they live."
Regalado assured that the authorities will do everything possible to connect remote areas with the city center. "This will improve the lives of many people who do not currently have normal transport links," the mayor said. He is confident that in 2026 Granadilla de Abona will have modern and convenient urban transport.
The new bus network is part of the development plan of the city of Granadilla de Abona.
