The historic Gran Hotel Taoro in Puerto de la Cruz has completed its modernization with the launch of a luxury wellness center, marking a strategic shift toward premium tourism in northern Tenerife.

The reopening of the Gran Hotel Taoro in Puerto de la Cruz marks a major step forward in the effort to boost tourism in northern Tenerife. By focusing on high-end services, the hotel is helping the region attract a more premium market. The hotel has now completed its modernization with the launch of the Sandára Wellness Center, a facility designed to compete in the luxury health and wellness sector.

This move is part of a broader shift in the Canary Islands’ hotel industry. To remain competitive in Europe, resorts must now offer personalized health and aesthetic services, which are increasingly important to travelers. This new center complements the hotel’s existing fine-dining options, led by renowned chefs Ricardo Sanz and Erlantz Gorostiza, and sets a new standard for personal care in the region.

The wellness center’s design is inspired by the local landscape. Using stone materials and a color palette that reflects the island’s volcanic geology, the interior creates a seamless connection with the Orotava Valley. The space includes a thermal circuit with a sauna, steam room, and contrast showers, all positioned to offer views of the hotel’s historic gardens.

The center also offers exclusive treatments as one of only two locations in Tenerife authorized to use products from the French brand Anne Semonin. The service menu is extensive, featuring everything from pearl-infused facials and cryotherapy to a mix of Balinese and Ayurvedic massages and sports physiotherapy.

To celebrate its roots, the hotel offers a "Canarian Ritual" treatment using local banana extracts and warm volcanic stones, complemented by a mural from artist Ione Domínguez. With a high-end gym and outdoor areas for yoga and Pilates, the Gran Hotel Taoro has created a space that balances fitness with relaxation, all while staying in harmony with the natural beauty of its surroundings.
