Gournay Surgeon Pioneers Preservé®: Rapid-Recovery Breast Augmentation

A plastic surgeon with Spain's Gournay Group is pioneering the Preservé® minimally invasive breast augmentation technique, which offers natural results and significantly faster recovery.

Gournay is a medical group that brings together top aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery clinics from across Spain. They combine years of experience, scientific knowledge, and advanced technology, all while maintaining very high standards.

This type of minimally invasive surgery causes less damage to breast tissue. It can be done as an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can go home the same day. Most can get back to an almost normal routine within 24 hours and their full normal life within 7 days. You can even return to the gym by the third week.

I am a plastic surgeon and have specialised in breast surgery for nearly 30 years. In 2005, I founded Clínica Salud Estética, which is now part of the Gournay Group. My goal was to provide top-quality aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery in the Canary Islands, based on solid scientific principles. I have always aimed to learn more precise and less invasive techniques. My aim is for every patient to feel calm and confident about their surgery, and to achieve a natural, balanced result.

This is a minimally invasive breast augmentation technique designed to increase breast volume while respecting the natural anatomy as much as possible. It keeps the entire breast gland and ligaments intact. This creates a natural 'nest' for the implant by gently expanding the existing tissue.

The procedure is done through a tiny incision, about 2 cm long, in the crease under the breast. Through this, a special, very flexible gel implant is inserted.

The result is a very natural-looking breast, maintaining natural sensitivity, with less inflammation, and a much more comfortable experience overall.

Traditional breast augmentation often involves larger incisions and moving more tissue. Preservé®, however, keeps the gland and ligaments intact, which reduces changes to the tissue. Because it's less invasive, recovery is more comfortable, with less pain and a much quicker return to everyday activities.

I have trained in Sweden, Belgium, and Spain, in leading centres for this technique. Having learned about its origins, watched it develop, and used it in many different real-life situations, I can offer it today with complete confidence. For me, it has been one of the most important breakthroughs in breast surgery in recent years.

The new-generation implants from Motiva Laboratory are ergonomic, meaning they work very well with this technique. They are designed to move like a natural breast, with an internal gel that changes shape with your body's movements and a very soft outer shell that reduces friction with surrounding tissues.

This means these implants look and feel like natural breasts when you're standing. We achieve a very natural result, which is a hallmark of all my surgeries. They also have a very soft and natural feel and include advanced safety features that allow us to check their integrity. Their elasticity is also why we can insert them through such small incisions.

This technique is for women who want a very natural and elegant augmentation, usually increasing by one or two cup sizes. It is ideal when the upper part of the breast lacks volume. This includes slender women, those who have lost weight, or women after pregnancy or breastfeeding. It's also perfect for athletic women, as it allows them to get back to exercise sooner.

With Preservé®, you can return to the gym around the third week. This is much faster than the three months of rest from physical exercise we recommend for more traditional surgery.

Correcting tuberous breasts is one of the surgeries I perform most often. Depending on the severity, Preservé® can sometimes be used, but not always. It's crucial to assess each breast individually to decide on the best technique for each case.

I have decades of experience and have trained with the best surgeons globally, so I thought little could surprise me. However, Preservé® is one of the most exciting advancements I've seen in years. I have become one of the pioneers in the country because this technique genuinely improves the patient's experience.

This is an outpatient surgery, meaning patients can go home on the same day. Within 24 hours, they can resume an almost normal life, and practically their usual routine within 7 days. By the third week, they can typically return to the gym.

Both are essentially the same technique from the same laboratory. The difference is that MIA® uses an incision in the armpit and is only suitable for very small volume increases.

My advice is to always seek a personal consultation. Every breast is different, and no two surgeries are the same. It's important to understand what options are available for your specific situation and which technique can best achieve your desired result. I would also recommend choosing a surgeon experienced in these advanced methods, because a good diagnosis and careful planning are fundamental. When you have clear information and a personalised approach, you can make decisions with much greater peace of mind.
