German National Arrested for Assaulting Minors in Tenerife as Illegal Settlement Tensions Rise
A German national has been arrested in Tenerife for allegedly assaulting two minors near an illegal settlement, reigniting public concerns over the management of makeshift camps in tourist areas.
Tensions over public space in Tenerife have flared again following a violent incident in Costa Adeje. National Police have arrested a German national, identified as E.J.S., for allegedly assaulting two 13-year-old boys. The event has reignited concerns about the rise of illegal settlements in popular tourist areas and the resulting friction between residents and those living in makeshift camps.
The incident occurred on June 28 near Bobo Beach and Pueblo Canario. According to reports, a group of six minors returning from a fishing trip was confronted by the suspect. Without provocation, the man allegedly struck one boy in the face and threw the other against rocks. The second victim suffered a fractured elbow and required treatment at the Hospital del Sur.
Police arrested the man after the victims' parents filed a formal complaint and provided medical reports. Following a forensic examination and court proceedings in Arona, the judicial authority is expected to issue a restraining order. This creates a complex situation: if the order is enforced, the suspect will be forced to vacate the illegal dwelling he has occupied on public land for several years.
The case has sparked public outcry, with many questioning why authorities have allowed these irregular settlements to persist in high-traffic areas. Beyond the violence against the minors, residents are frustrated by the lack of oversight in spaces that should be strictly managed. The outcome of this case will be a key test for local authorities in balancing the need for public safety with the ongoing challenge of housing instability along the coast.
