A German man has been arrested in Costa del Silencio, Arona, accused of murdering his mother with a gun, after bullet casings and a note asking for forgiveness were found at the scene.

A German man is accused of murdering his mother early Sunday morning in Costa del Silencio, Arona.

Police believe he used a gun, as officers found bullet casings in the apartment where the death happened, and neighbours reported hearing gunshots.

The victim's body was discovered around 11:20 AM inside her home in the Sunflower development. Sources say several .22 caliber bullet casings were found on the floor.

A handwritten note, reportedly from the suspect, was also found at the scene, asking for forgiveness for his actions.

The man then fled the scene in his sister's car, reportedly taking the gun with him. Authorities knew he had escaped in a grey Fiat Punto.

The deceased woman was identified as Heitrum Hellwig, a German national who lived in Tenerife and had a foreign identification number (NIE).

Arona local police were the first to arrive after a citizen reported a death. Initially, officers thought it might have been a natural or accidental death. However, once inside the apartment, they found bullet casings on the floor and saw injuries on the victim that clearly indicated foul play.

Local police then sealed off the area and called the Civil Guard. The case was quickly taken over by the Territorial Judicial Police Team of Playa de las Américas and the Crimes Against Persons Team of the Organic Judicial Police Unit.

Sources have confirmed that the suspected murderer has since been arrested.
