Tenerife is drowning in garbage: "South" Airport shocks tourists with mess.
Tenerife South Airport is drowning in garbage and neglect due to the absence of a contractor, causing outrage among local businesses and tourism organizations, who are calling on AENA for urgent action.
Around Tenerife South Airport, there is a lot of garbage and neglected gardens. This is because the company that previously maintained the area no longer works there. AENA (the organization that manages the airport) tried to find a new company, but the tender in May did not take place. So now no one is responsible for cleaning and maintenance.
Various organizations, such as the "Forum of Friends of Southern Tenerife" and the "Circle of Entrepreneurs of Southern Tenerife," are very unhappy about this. They say that this is the first thing tourists see when they arrive on the island, and the impression is not very good.
The "Center for Tourist Initiatives of Southern Tenerife" has also expressed its concern. They say that the gardens are neglected and the garbage creates unsanitary conditions.
In their opinion, this is unacceptable for an international airport, as it spoils the impression of Tenerife as a beautiful place to relax.
Entrepreneurs generally do not understand why AENA is doing nothing about this mess at Tenerife South and Los Rodeos airports. They say that tourists even take pictures of this dirt and post them on social networks, and it is embarrassing.
Therefore, entrepreneurs are calling on AENA to do something urgently. They believe that airports should not look like they are in third world countries, as this damages the reputation of Tenerife. Cleanliness in airports is not a luxury, but a necessity.
The "Center for Tourist Initiatives" reminded that there are various ways in Spanish law to quickly solve this problem until a permanent cleaning company is found. Their president, Rafael Dolado, believes that there is no need to wait until it gets worse, because the law allows immediate action.
Therefore, the "Center for Tourist Initiatives" asks AENA to urgently find a way to remove the garbage and put the gardens in order so as not to spoil the image of Tenerife and not to create inconvenience for tourists and local residents.
