Garachico is hosting its second thematic conference from November 3 to 6, featuring expert lectures and exhibitions that explore the intersection of scientific research, local folklore, and anomalous phenomena.

Garachico is once again becoming a hub for exploring the unexplained as it hosts its second thematic conference. Organized by the local Department of Culture and the Canarias Mágica platform, the event aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and local folklore, offering a fresh look at phenomena that remain mysteries today.

The conference takes place from November 3 to 6 at the Casa de Piedra. The program kicks off with researcher Xerach García, who will present new findings on light sightings along the northwest coast of La Palma. Using a collection of photos and documents, he intends to highlight anomalous activity in the island's airspace.

The event goes beyond UFOs to explore the sociology of belief. Anthropologist Fernando Hernández González will discuss how miracles and wonders have shaped Canarian history, particularly how these stories helped communities cope with natural disasters and health crises. On November 5, journalist José Gregorio González will offer a critical look at how conspiracy theories and misinformation spread online. The series concludes on November 6 with theologian Andrés Brito Galindo, who will examine the scientific and religious debates surrounding the iconography of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

The program also features an artistic side with Echoes of the Other Side, the Last Threshold, an exhibition by painter Joan Bells that explores themes of human mortality. Additionally, a guided tour on November 14 will take participants through Garachico to uncover the town’s hidden history and local legends. Those interested in the tour must register in advance at the Town Hall.

By combining free lectures with hands-on activities, Garachico is turning mystery into a subject of serious study. These events not only boost the local cultural scene but also reflect a growing interest in preserving legendary heritage through a modern, academic lens.
