Garachico Featured on ONCE Lottery Ticket in 'Film Towns' Series
The Tenerife town of Garachico is being featured on 5.5 million ONCE lottery tickets as part of a series celebrating its status as a premier film location.
Garachico’s reputation as a premier film location has reached a new milestone. The Tenerife town will be featured on the ONCE lottery ticket for Sunday, August 16, as part of the organization’s "Film Towns" series. The official presentation of the ticket, which will have a print run of 5.5 million copies, was led by Mayor José Heriberto González Rodríguez and ONCE’s Santa Cruz de Tenerife director, Miguel Ángel Déniz Méndez.
This recognition celebrates the town’s unique history, specifically its reconstruction following the volcanic eruption of 1706. Beyond its heritage, Garachico has become a popular destination for film crews. Notable productions filmed in its streets and landscapes include Fast & Furious 6 (2013), which spent five weeks shooting in the area, as well as Maktub (2011) and the recent release Bajo un volcán (2025), directed by Martín Cuervo. These projects have brought major stars to the town, including Vin Diesel, Elsa Pataky, William Levy, and Maggie Civantos.
The ONCE lottery series aims to support its vendors while promoting the chosen locations. The Garachico ticket is part of the "Weekend Salary" draw, which offers a top prize of 300,000 euros plus 5,000 euros a month for 20 years, along with several secondary prizes. Through this initiative, ONCE highlights the cultural and tourism value of Spanish towns, bringing local history into the daily lives of lottery players.
