The first volcano eruption simulation drill in Spain will take place in Garachico, Tenerife, where a thousand rescuers will practice different scenarios and evacuate about 200 residents.

"Garachico will become a testing ground for our readiness for a volcanic eruption," is how Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, described the town. It is here that the first eruption simulation drill in Spain will take place on Friday, September 26.

The Cabildo of Tenerife provided details about the drill, which will involve a thousand rescuers. At a press conference attended by all organizations involved in the drill, they explained how everything would take place. The drill is being conducted as part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (Ucpm / EU-Modex).

The simulation in Garachico will last from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26. It will include five different scenarios, 13 exercises, and a number of unforeseen situations to which rescuers will have to respond quickly. Also, during the drill, about 200 residents will be evacuated from the area of the old port of Villa and Puerto.
