Galician President Alfonso Rueda is visiting Tenerife to commemorate the 530th anniversary of Saint James the Apostle and strengthen cultural and diplomatic ties between Galicia and the Canary Islands.

Galician President Alfonso Rueda is visiting Tenerife this Thursday to celebrate the 530th anniversary of Saint James the Apostle, highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between Galicia and the Canary Islands.

The visit, hosted by the Los Realejos City Council, will be attended by Canary Islands Vice President Manuel Domínguez. It serves as both a religious commemoration and a diplomatic effort to strengthen cooperation between the two regional governments.

The event begins at 6:45 p.m. at Plaza Viera y Clavijo, where officials will meet to discuss the shared heritage that connects the two regions. This will be followed by a 7:00 p.m. mass at the Parroquia Matriz del Apóstol Santiago, featuring a joint floral offering to symbolize the fraternity between the communities.

Beyond the anniversary, the visit reflects the long-standing influence of Galician migration and culture in the Canary Islands. Los Realejos Mayor Adolfo González noted that the event is a vital opportunity to honor the common legacy that continues to shape the identity of his municipality, where Saint James remains a central spiritual figure.
