Galería Artizar in La Laguna opens "Hacer tiempo" this Friday, an exhibition featuring five Canary Islands artists who challenge the modern art world's obsession with speed by prioritizing slow, meticulous craftsmanship.

A new exhibition opening this Friday at Galería Artizar in La Laguna, titled Hacer tiempo (Making Time), challenges the "instant" culture that dominates today’s art world. The show, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at 63 San Agustín Street, invites visitors to reflect on the fast-paced nature of modern artistic production.

Curator Ramiro Carrillo has assembled a diverse group of artists—Marco Alom, Julio Blancas, Laura Mesa Lima, Carlos Nicanor, and Victoria Valiente—to question the pressure for constant efficiency in the art scene. The exhibition argues that these artists reject the trend of rapid consumption by focusing on slow, meticulous work processes. More than just a celebration of manual labor, the project presents an ethical choice: treating time as a core element of the artwork to push back against the performance-driven demands of today’s economy.

The featured artists represent different generations of creators from the Canary Islands, born between 1967 and 2000. Despite their different backgrounds, they share a commitment to prioritizing depth over speed—a response to the information overload and "disposable" nature of much modern art.

The exhibition will be open to the public until December 5. The gallery’s regular hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. With this show, the gallery joins a broader European conversation about sustainable art, advocating for the value of slowing down in an era obsessed with virality.
