The GöteborgsOperans Danskompani will make its exclusive Spanish appearance at Tenerife’s Mapas 2026 festival, headlining a diverse program of contemporary dance performances running through July 24.

The GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is coming to the Auditorio de Tenerife for the Mapas 2026 festival, marking a major moment for the island’s cultural scene. As the company’s only stop in Spain, this visit highlights the festival’s dedication to cutting-edge contemporary dance and cements the Tenerife venue as a key destination for major European tours.

The Swedish company will present three high-impact works. The series opens with Hammer, an ambitious piece by director Alexander Ekman featuring 31 performers. Widely praised by critics and audiences alike, the work offers an ironic look at digital identity and the pressure to seek validation online. Performances are this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., the festival presents a double bill featuring two of today’s most influential choreographers. The evening begins with ima by Sharon Eyal, known for its hypnotic style and costumes designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. After an intermission, the audience will see Wild Poetry by Hofesh Shechter, a 2023 piece that explores group dynamics and has already toured festivals across Europe.

The Mapas 2026 festival concludes on July 24 with Bodies of Water. Directed by Spanish choreographer Iván Pérez and performed by the Dance Theatre Heidelberg, this piece features ten dancers and explores the deep connection between humans and water. It serves as a fitting finale for a festival that has brought together a diverse range of dance styles.

To make these performances accessible, tickets are priced at 15 euros, with a reduced rate of 5 euros for those under 30. Further discounts are available for students, the unemployed, and large families. A festival pass is also available for 39 euros, covering all three performances by the Swedish company as well as the closing show.
