Güímar's government faces renewed instability with the resignation of a key councilor, fueling opposition concerns about stalled budgets and administrative issues, though ruling sources deny any crisis and anticipate a planned reshuffle.

The Güímar government is undergoing another shake-up following the resignation of socialist councilor José Miguel Hernández Fernández, who was in charge of Finance and Human Resources. Hernández was one of the councilors who backed the no-confidence vote that installed Carmen Luisa Castro of the PP as mayor. Castro will temporarily manage these departments until a replacement is found.

Coalición Canaria (CC) in Güímar released a statement yesterday saying this resignation "highlights a tense situation within the ruling group."

Gustavo Pérez, CC's spokesperson and former mayor, expressed concern, noting that the mayor had considered the departing councilor crucial to the no-confidence motion. He added that the loss of a key figure "raises questions about the government's actual standing."

CC also pointed out that the resignation occurs amidst "a period characterized by a stalled municipal budget, files with negative reports from Audit and Secretariat departments, outstanding invoices, and ongoing personnel management issues."

This follows the recent departure of another Güímar councilor who also resigned, citing a lack of coordination. For CC, these resignations, combined with administrative delays, suggest a decline in management effectiveness just months after the government change last August.

However, sources within the municipality, speaking to DIARIO DE AVISOS, deny any internal crisis. They suggest that changes in departmental responsibilities were planned and that the official decree for new assignments and the new councilor is still pending. "There's no instability. We're all working together to improve these departments," they stated, anticipating a reshuffle of duties in the coming weeks. They insist that services will not be affected, while the opposition is demanding answers and warning that the lack of clarity is causing worry among municipal staff and residents.
