Güímar Council to Vote on Industrial Estate Expansion, New Commercial Zone
The Güímar City Council plans to expand the industrial estate and create a new commercial zone for service businesses to address a long-standing demand from local companies and boost job creation.
The Güímar City Council is moving forward with plans to expand the Güímar Valley Industrial Estate and create a new commercial zone for service businesses. This proposal will be put before the council for approval at their next meeting in November.
Mayor Luisa Castro stated that this move is in response to a long-standing request from businesses. She pointed out that Güímar has less land available for this type of development compared to other towns involved in the commercial area, making it crucial to explore expansion options.
The plan involves developing land next to the current industrial estate specifically for the service sector. Currently, only the part of the industrial estate in the neighbouring town of Arafo has dedicated space for these types of businesses. The council believes that the lack of suitable land in Güímar has held back local businesses for years and prevented new companies in areas like retail, logistics, training, and tourism from setting up shop, which also impacts job creation.
To gain support for this initiative, which will require changes to the Master Plan, the council will also be contacting the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade, and Self-Employed.
