Güímar Company Targeted in Digger Arson, Two Sought
The Civil Guard is investigating a series of security incidents targeting a company in Güímar, Tenerife, after a digger was deliberately set on fire on February 18, with two individuals sought in connection with the latest event.
A series of incidents targeting the same company in Güímar, Tenerife, is raising concerns about business security in the area. The latest event, on February 18, saw a digger deliberately set on fire and destroyed. This is one of several similar incidents recently, prompting the Civil Guard to investigate and search for two individuals believed to be involved.
The fire, which destroyed a Komatsu digger, happened early on February 18 at the company's site. This location is near the Güímar cemetery in the island's southeast. Investigators suspect an accelerant was used to quickly spread the flames. Recently released video footage shows the moment the fire began and two individuals then jumping the main fence to escape the premises.
Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium's Valle de Güímar station, along with local volunteer firefighters, were sent to the scene. Civil Guard officers and local police also attended. For now, the reasons behind this act and the identities of those responsible remain unclear.
This latest event is part of a string of incidents the company has faced in recent weeks, including the suspected theft of fuel from its transport vehicles. Investigators are looking into whether this stolen fuel might have been used to start the digger fire. Separately, on February 6, a private car caught fire in the El Puertito de Güímar area, but no connection to the company's incidents has been confirmed.
