Gálvez Explores Judas and Mary's "Silences" in New Passion Novel
TV personality Christian Gálvez explores the human "silences" of Jesus' Passion through the eyes of Judas and Mary in his new book, He vencido al mundo, launching next Saturday, March 21, in Adeje.
Christian Gálvez, a well-known TV personality, has also made a name for himself as a writer. He's written a book that looks back at important moments and people in Christian history. In an interview with DIARIO DE AVISOS, Gálvez explained his approach: he wants to offer a fresh look at familiar stories. He doesn't change the historical or spiritual facts but instead explores the "silences" – the untold human aspects – of the main characters.
His latest book, He vencido al mundo (I have overcome the world), focuses on the critical days of Jesus' Passion. It tells the story from two different viewpoints: Judas Iscariot and Mary, Jesus' mother. Gálvez sees Judas as one of the most complicated and often misunderstood figures in Christian history. He tries to uncover Judas's personal struggles, inner conflicts, and reasons for his choices, going beyond simple historical explanations. The book also explores Mary's character from a deeply human perspective: that of a mother facing her son's suffering. The author looks at the contradiction of her motherhood, where her protective instincts meet her acceptance of a higher plan, showing her inner strength during pain.
Gálvez used this same approach of exploring history's "silences" in his previous novel, Te he llamado por tu nombre (I have called you by your name). In that book, he covered the crucifixion and the later destruction of Jerusalem, telling the story of early Christianity through the eyes of a child who protects the evangelist Luke. Gálvez stresses that his method isn't about changing established historical or spiritual facts. Instead, it's about offering a new way to understand what's already known, focusing on the experiences and feelings of those involved in the events. He says this process involves thorough research combined with creative freedom to explore areas not fully detailed in historical records.
Christian Gálvez will launch He vencido al mundo in Adeje next Saturday, March 21. At this event, he will also have the chance to officially announce the local Holy Week celebrations. Gálvez believes this setting is particularly meaningful for a book that revisits the origins of this commemoration.
