The Agáldar Museum in Gran Canaria will host Juan Luis Calero Santana’s exhibition, The Evocative Chair, from June 2 to June 28 as part of the tenth annual Artebirgua Literary Festival.

The Agáldar Museum in Gran Canaria is set to host a unique exhibition that blends philosophy with contemporary art. Titled The Evocative Chair (La silla evocadora), the collection will be on display from June 2 to June 28 as part of the tenth annual Artebirgua Literary Festival.

The festival aims to bring culture to significant heritage sites across the island, including Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains. The exhibition opens on June 2 at 6:00 p.m. with a special ceremony featuring a poetry reading. Manuel Díaz García, president of the Poesía Viva de la Atlántida Association—the group organizing the festival—will recite verses from José María Millares Sall’s collection, Chairs.

The exhibition highlights the artistic work of Juan Luis Calero Santana. While best known for his long career in communications, Calero Santana has been involved in the visual arts since his youth, when he first trained under Ángel Gustavo at the former Labor University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

His artistic style has been heavily influenced by key figures in Canary Island art. In 1976, his encounter with César Manrique’s work at the Castillo de San José in Lanzarote introduced him to abstract expressionism. Combined with his later studies under Lucas de Saá, these experiences have helped him develop a distinct visual language, which will be on full display at the Gáldar exhibition.
