Spanish police have arrested a high-profile fugitive in Arona, Tenerife, who was wanted by Poland to serve a 485-year sentence for numerous crimes including drug trafficking and assault.

The arrest of a fugitive in Arona highlights how effectively European police forces work together to ensure that national borders cannot be used as a safe haven for dangerous criminals. According to the National Police, the man was wanted under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Poland. He faces a cumulative sentence of 485 years for a long list of crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal weapons possession, fraud, and more than forty counts of physical assault.

This operation, which began in September 2025, proved difficult because the fugitive used sophisticated tactics to avoid detection. Living in Tenerife with his family, he managed to escape police multiple times. In one instance, he jumped from a high balcony to flee, and in February, he led officers on a dangerous high-speed chase during a traffic stop, putting other drivers at risk while using fake identification.

The standoff finally ended last Wednesday, when the Special Operations Security Group (GOES) moved in. The suspect had been hiding in a house on a dead-end street specifically chosen to allow for a quick getaway. After keeping the property under constant watch, officers intercepted him while he was out walking his pet. Although he tried to run back inside, the police quickly surrounded him, successfully concluding one of the most challenging manhunts in the Canary Islands in recent months.
