Fuerteventura has solidified its status as a premier film and TV production hub, highlighted by Javier Fesser's series 'Depredador' winning 48 awards at 157 international festivals.

Fuerteventura is proving to be a highly successful location for the Spanish film and TV industry. This is clear from the recent widespread acclaim for the series 'Depredador', directed by Javier Fesser.

According to the Fuerteventura Island Council, 'Depredador' has won 48 national and international awards after being shown at 157 festivals worldwide. This achievement firmly establishes the island as a top spot for major film productions.

This success highlights the effectiveness of strategic initiatives like the 'Fuerteventura Natural Film Set Award', which is promoted by the Fuerteventura Film Commission and the Notodofilmfest festival. Javier Fesser, who was an ambassador for this award, used the island's landscapes, especially in the municipality of La Oliva, to bring the story of 'Depredador' to life.

Productions like this not only boost the region's cultural profile but also strengthen the Canary Islands' position as an attractive hub for the global film industry. This is further helped by a very competitive tax incentive scheme.

The series, produced by Películas Pendelton, has been a hit beyond Spain, shown in countries such as Italy, France, the United States, Colombia, and the United Kingdom. It has received specific awards like 'Best Short Film' at prestigious competitions including the Elche Independent Film Festival, Tenerife Noir, and the Algeciras Fantástika Festival.

'Depredador' is structured in three episodes and follows two characters, Vilma and Cris, played by Athenea Mata, Claudia Fesser, and Maggie Balance. They journey through harsh terrains and face unexpected situations. Fuerteventura's desolate landscape wasn't just a backdrop; it was a fundamental part of the story. This demonstrates how the island's scenery can transform to represent diverse global settings. This factor, combined with economic incentives, makes Fuerteventura a preferred choice for renowned directors.
