Fran Hernández, Secretary General of Coalición Canaria in La Laguna, has announced his candidacy for the 2027 local elections, pledging to prioritize housing, mobility, and a neighborhood-focused policy.

Fran Hernández, Secretary General of Coalición Canaria (CC) in La Laguna, has announced his intention to lead his party’s ticket in the 2027 local elections. Emphasizing the importance of institutional stability, the current Councilor for Municipal Services and Citizen Participation praised the government agreement signed with the PSOE in late 2023, describing it as a period of political calm unseen in the municipality for twenty years.

Reflecting on his current term, Hernández highlighted several key achievements, including the modernization of public lighting with LED technology and La Laguna’s recognition as a "Tree City of the World" by UNESCO. He also noted improvements in recycling rates and reported that the new municipal regulations for citizen participation are currently in the final stages of review. He dismissed recent criticism from the Partido Popular regarding these regulations, calling the claims unfounded and insisting that the new rules will strengthen local democracy.

Looking ahead to 2027, CC’s strategy for La Laguna rests on two main pillars: addressing housing and mobility in coordination with the Island Council and regional government, and implementing a "proximity policy" that offers specific proposals for each of the municipality’s 81 neighborhoods. Hernández also reaffirmed his support for extending the tram line to the North airport, suggesting a route parallel to the TF-5 to reduce its impact on the area.

Regarding the closure of small businesses in the historic center, the councilor attributed the trend to shifting global consumer habits. In response, the City Council is developing a training and digitalization plan to help local merchants adopt e-commerce tools. As for future political alliances, Hernández remains pragmatic, stating that his priority after the 2027 election will be to form a stable government based on the final results.
