Four Firms Bid for €49.8 Million Granadilla Port Quay Project
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority has received four bids for the 49.8 million euro project to complete the Granadilla quay, following a budget increase to address rising construction costs.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority has successfully restarted the tender process to finish the quay at the port of Granadilla, a key project for the region's logistics. After an initial attempt failed last April, the agency has now received four bids from major national construction firms.
The process was relaunched following a necessary financial and technical review. The original budget of 36.7 million euros has been increased to 46.2 million euros, with a total contract value estimated at 49.8 million. This adjustment accounts for current economic realities, including inflation and rising costs for materials and energy, which made the original budget unfeasible.
During a meeting on the 20th, the contracting board validated proposals from Acciona Construcción and a joint venture between Dragados and Satocan. Bids from FCC Construcción and a partnership between Sacyr Construcción and Servicios Bahillo were also provisionally accepted, pending the submission of final documentation.
In addition to the budget increase, the project includes a correction to the structural design of the quay’s caissons, fixing an error found in the initial plans. The project is expected to take 20 months to complete and will add 543.3 meters to the quay, bringing its total length to 1,045 meters. This will be achieved by installing 11 reinforced concrete caissons, each 48 meters long, at a depth of 18 meters.
This progress is vital for the Port Authority’s goal of turning Granadilla into a major logistics hub. The decision to adjust the tender to reflect current market prices highlights the broader challenges facing public infrastructure projects in Spain, where volatile construction costs have forced many agencies to revise contracts to keep essential work moving forward.
