Former Pro Footballer Airam Cabrera Finds New Competitive Path in Footgolf
Former professional footballer Airam Cabrera has transitioned into competitive footgolf while expressing renewed optimism for the future of his former club, CD Tenerife.
Former professional footballer Airam Cabrera has found a new competitive outlet in footgolf, a sport that is helping him adjust to life after his career in the professional game. Speaking to Deporpress, the Tenerife native discussed his transition into this precision-based sport and his renewed connection with his former club, CD Tenerife.
Cabrera explains that footgolf—which requires both technical skill and a humble approach to learning—has provided a fresh challenge where his past football experience doesn't automatically guarantee success. He recently represented Spain at the Footgolf World Cup in Acapulco and is now preparing for the ninth edition of the "Amigos de Cherre Bello" tournament, held on June 20th at Golf Costa Adeje.
Beyond his own sporting journey, Cabrera is optimistic about the current direction of CD Tenerife. He praised the club’s recent focus on developing its youth academy, noting that the work of figures like Raico and Ayoze has helped him feel a sense of pride in the team again—a bond he felt had weakened during his playing days.
Looking back, Cabrera reflected on the missed opportunities to return to the club earlier in his career, but he is pleased to see the current structure now in place for young Canarian players. As he settles into this new chapter, Cabrera remains focused on his next competition in Costa Adeje, with registration for the event now open via the FootGolf World app or the Canarian board’s email.
