Former Cajasiete leader Fernando Berge Royo was honored at a gala in Tenerife for his 44-year career and significant contributions to the Canary Islands' economy and society.

Fernando Berge Royo, a central figure in the regional financial sector for the past four decades, was recently honored at the Adán Martín Auditorium in Tenerife. During the IV "Grateful to Our People" Gala, the former head of Cajasiete received a surprise tribute recognizing his significant impact on the Canary Islands' economy and society.

The event was attended by prominent officials, including Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo and Tenerife Island Council President Rosa Dávila. The ceremony marked a generational shift for Cajasiete, celebrating Berge’s long career—which began when he arrived in the islands for military service and continued through his tenure as Director General in 1990 until his retirement as president in 2025. Praised by business and academic leaders for his focus on community and social impact, Berge has been named honorary president of the organization and its foundation, and he is set to receive the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands.

The gala also highlighted the future of Cajasiete. Current president Manuel del Castillo stressed that the organization will continue to prioritize sustainable development and social responsibility over simple financial gains. Berge echoed this sentiment in his speech, emphasizing that the company’s success is built on teamwork and a commitment to the local community.

In addition to honoring Berge, the gala recognized several local organizations for their work in education, equality, environmental protection, and mental health, including the University of La Laguna, Charter 100 Canarias, BPW Canarias, the Foresta Foundation, and Salud Mental Atelsam. As Cajasiete moves forward, it faces the challenge of balancing digital growth with the personal, community-focused banking model that defined Berge’s 44-year career.
