Flamenco guitarist Alfredo Lagos will headline "Mare Canticum," a free conference-concert at CajaCanarias Cultural Space on Wednesday at 8:00 PM, exploring the musical links between Andalusia, the Canary Islands, and America with singers and musicians.

This Wednesday at 8:00 PM, the CajaCanarias Foundation and the UNED-Tenerife Chair of Canary-American Studies are hosting a unique event: a conference-concert featuring flamenco guitarist Alfredo Lagos.

Titled "Mare Canticum," the performance will take place at the CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Admission is free, but spaces are limited. Paco de la Rosa will lead the event, discussing the historical and cultural connections of music moving between Andalusia, the Canary Islands, and America. He will also chat with the musicians who will bring this musical journey to life.

Joining Alfredo Lagos on stage will be singer David Lagos, Canarian musician Gabriel Cubas playing the theorbo and timple, and vocalist Jessica Cedrés. They will perform music from both Canarian and flamenco traditions, highlighting how these styles have influenced music in America and how they have, in turn, been influenced by returning to Europe.

"Mare Canticum" is a blend of talk and music, combining singing and musical education. It aims to trace the musical connections of this cultural exchange, inviting the audience to follow the sounds and journeys that have linked Andalusia, the Canary Islands, and America.

These connections have built strong cultural links, but they are also subtle and easily missed. They can best be experienced through listening, our most reliable and memorable sense.

This project, a collaboration between the UNED-Tenerife Chair of Canary-American Studies (CCAM) and the CajaCanarias Foundation, seeks to bring learning beyond academic settings and into public discussion. The goal is to foster communities that see themselves as places for meeting and sharing knowledge.
