Five people will be tried in Tenerife for theft, drugs, and weapons: the prosecution is seeking up to 9 years in prison.
On Tenerife, five individuals face lengthy prison sentences for theft, drug trafficking, and illegal possession of weapons, committed separately rather than as an organized group.
In the north of Tenerife, five people are accused of theft, assault, drug trafficking, and illegal possession of weapons. The prosecution wants one of them to serve 8.5 years for theft, another 5 years for the same crime, and is seeking a 9-year sentence for the third.
In addition, the third defendant may be ordered to pay a fine of €44,200 for drugs and weapons.
The other two face 4.5 years in prison for burglary.
During a preliminary hearing in July, it was decided that these five would not be considered an organized crime group. That is, each crime and each defendant will be considered separately.
Their trial, where charges of crimes against public health and theft will be considered, is scheduled for September 25.
The Civil Guard in the north of the island learned that these individuals were stealing jewelry, antique coins, electronics, and money from homes by breaking locks.
Sometimes they attacked the owners, sometimes they failed to steal anything, and sometimes they took up to €8,000. In total, they committed 21 crimes.
During searches of their homes, weapons, about 400 grams of cocaine, 42 grams of hashish, and half a gram of MDMA, worth about €22,200, were found.
Part of the stolen goods and tools for theft were also found.
The prosecution demands that the criminals compensate the victims for the stolen items. The amount of damages will be determined during the execution of the sentence.
