Fire at Former Adeje Hotel Ahead of Eviction
A fire broke out at the former Callao Sport hotel in Adeje, currently housing hundreds of people, with authorities suspecting arson just five days before a court-ordered eviction deadline.
A fire broke out early Friday afternoon at the former Callao Sport hotel in Adeje. Hundreds of people have been living in the building since the start of this year.
Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium's Guía de Isora station and volunteer firefighters from Adeje are tackling the blaze at the hotel, which is located in Callao Salvaje. Adeje local police and Civil Guard officers are also on site, working to prevent the fire from spreading.
The flames began in an empty room filled with rubbish, located near the tennis courts.
No injuries have been reported so far, and no one has been identified as responsible for starting the fire.
Authorities suspect the fire may have been set on purpose, and believe the culprits could be among those leaving the former tourist complex.
This incident happens just five days before the court-ordered deadline for the eviction of the former hotel is due to expire.
