Fimucité Launches "Todos Sumamos" Initiative to Support Vulnerable Youth in Tenerife
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) has launched "Todos Sumamos," an educational initiative designed to foster social skills and emotional well-being among vulnerable youth in the Canary Islands.
This year, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) is going beyond music to strengthen its commitment to the Canary Islands’ community. The festival recently launched "Todos Sumamos" (We All Contribute), an educational project designed to support children and teenagers in vulnerable situations. Held on June 17 and 19 at the Lázaro Siliuto Youth Center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the initiative reflects a growing trend of major cultural events incorporating social responsibility into their core mission.
Developed in partnership with the Santa Cruz City Council’s Department of Social Policies, the program focuses on building "soft skills" rather than technical musical training. Led by musician Gonzalo de Araoz and supported by psychology experts, the project adapted professional team-building exercises for a younger audience. The goal was to encourage cooperation and active listening among participants aged 3 to 15, including those from Aldeas Infantiles and the Don Bosco Association.
The initiative highlights how music can improve emotional well-being, helping participants feel a sense of belonging through collective creativity. This project, which took two years to develop, serves as a lead-up to the festival’s 20th anniversary, scheduled for July 3–19, 2026.
The upcoming 20th edition of Fimucité will be held across Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. With support from local government bodies, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, and the Auditorio de Tenerife, the festival is set to be a major institutional event. By combining its international reputation for film music with these new social initiatives, Fimucité aims to ensure its cultural impact is felt throughout the local community.
