Fimucité 20 to Spotlight Oscar Scores, John Williams, 'Star Wars' Live
The 20th Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) will run from July 3-19, 2026, celebrating Oscar-winning film scores and John Williams, highlighted by "Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert" with a live orchestra.
The 20th Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) will take place from July 3 to 19, 2026. This year's festival will focus on Oscar-nominated and award-winning film scores, as well as the work of legendary American composer John Williams. Festival director, composer, and conductor Diego Navarro shared these details at a recent press conference. He was joined by several officials, including Lope Afonso, Vice President of the Cabildo de Tenerife; José Carlos Acha, Island Councillor for Culture; Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tourism; and Purificación Dávila, Councillor for the City Council of Tenerife's capital.
At the event, two videos were shown. One, directed by Sergo Méndez, announced the upcoming festival. The other was a special video looking back at the history of the film music exhibition.
A major highlight of next year's festival will be "Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert" on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. Thanks to an exclusive license from Disney, audiences can watch the original 1977 film while the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra performs John Williams' iconic score live. Irish composer and conductor Eímear Noone will lead the orchestra. She made history in 2020 as the first woman to conduct at the Academy Awards gala.
The festival will also celebrate John Williams, who holds the record for Oscar nominations. On July 16, the Auditorio de Tenerife's Chamber Hall will host the Spanish premiere of "John Williams Reimagined." Produced and narrated by Robert Townson, this special recital offers a fresh and personal look at Williams' music. Pianist Simone Pedroni will perform unique arrangements, joined by Sara Andon on flute and Cecilia Chan on cello. They will play beloved pieces from films like "Schindler's List," "Memoirs of a Geisha," "Harry Potter," and "Hook."
The festival will conclude on Sunday, July 19, with the "Fimucité 20 Red Carpet Gala." This grand finale concert, led by Diego Navarro, will feature the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir. It promises an exciting journey through famous Oscar-nominated and winning film scores, including music from "The Wizard of Oz," "Ben-Hur," "Lawrence of Arabia," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Chariots of Fire," "Dances with Wolves," "Titanic," "The English Patient," and "Dune." This year, for the first time, the festival will offer three symphonic concerts instead of the usual two.
Tickets for "Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert," "John Williams Reimagined," and the "Fimucité Red Carpet Gala" are available now. You can buy them at the Auditorio de Tenerife box office or online.
Beyond the main venues, Fimucité 20 will also offer activities for everyone across Tenerife's capital. These include outdoor summer cinema screenings in Residencial Anaga square and free concerts by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal Band and the Pop Culture Band.
Education remains a key part of the festival through the Fimucité Film Scoring Academy. This program brings together leading industry professionals and guest composers for masterclasses and discussions, open to both students and the general public.
