Tickets for the 42nd Canary Islands International Music Festival (FIMC) go on sale this Thursday. Over 41,000 tickets are available for 61 concerts, which will be held across all eight islands from January 8 to February 7. Organized by the regional government's Culture department, the festival's slogan is 'Let yourself be captivated by music.' This year's lineup includes renowned artists like pianist Yuja Wang, cellist Sol Gabetta, flamenco singer Estrella Morente, pianist Arcadi Volodos, and conductors Paavo Järvi and Jakub Hrusa. Other performers include Martin Helmchen (piano), Vadim Repin (violin), and Emmanuel Pahud (flute).

The FIMC will open with a performance by the RTVE Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Christoph König. This inaugural concert will pay tribute to Falla on the 150th anniversary of his birth. Two days later, the festival will host the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, considered one of the world's top five orchestras, led by Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi.

Other orchestras taking part include the Bamberg Symphony, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the SWR Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra. The Gran Canaria Philharmonic will join Estrella Morente in a tribute to Falla, and will also perform a homage to Ravel. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pablo González, will perform alongside violinist Vadim Repin. Both the Gran Canaria and Tenerife orchestras have also prepared special programs for the smaller islands.

The FIMC also champions local Canarian music. This year, two new works by Canarian composers will premiere: 'Oratorium' by Gonzalo Díaz Yerro and 'Ángel de arena' by Cecilia Díaz Pestano. The Inegale Orchestra and Súbito Koral will perform 'Oratorium,' while Ensemble Nexus will present 'Ángel de arena.' Additionally, concerts by pianist Gabriel Ducatenzeiler Kapp and soprano Raquel Lojendio are scheduled.

The festival's 'En Paralelo' (In Parallel) section features other groups and styles beyond classical music. One highlight is 'Canarii, deep within the country,' a concert-style show co-created by Manuel González and Daniel Abreu. It will feature artists like Teddy Bautista, Olga Cerpa, and the Vanya Moneva Bulgarian Voices Choir.
