Filmoteca Canaria and the Tenerife Noir Festival continue their film series with a focus on influential American filmmaker Abel Ferrara, screening his neo-noir crime thriller 'King of New York' on February 18th and 19th in the Canary Islands with free admission.

Filmoteca Canaria and the Tenerife Noir Atlantic Black Genre Festival are teaming up again to continue their special film series. This time, they're focusing on American filmmaker Abel Ferrara, whose work has significantly influenced modern cinema. This initiative follows a successful previous series dedicated to Ralph Bakshi, highlighting the Canary Islands public's strong interest in unique, director-focused film programs.

The next film in the series will be 'King of New York' (1990), a crime thriller about mob boss Frank White. You can catch screenings on Tuesday, February 18, at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and on Wednesday, February 19, at the Espacio Cultural La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Both showings start at 7:00 PM and will be presented in their original language with Spanish subtitles.

Abel Ferrara's films are known for their intensity and strong moral themes. They often depict a dark, gritty New York, focusing on characters in extreme situations. He's a recognized figure in international independent cinema, with his work frequently featured in retrospectives at festivals and film archives. 'King of New York' perfectly showcases his style, telling the story of Frank White (played by Christopher Walken) as he returns from prison. He attempts to reclaim power in a city torn apart by chaos and warring gangs. The film also stars Laurence Fishburne, David Caruso, Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, and Steve Buscemi, all contributing to its neo-noir atmosphere.

All screenings in this series are free, but seating is limited. You can get your tickets from the official websites of the venues: www.elteatroguiniguada.com and www.espaciolagranja.com, or directly from their box offices. Through this program, Filmoteca Canaria and Tenerife Noir are dedicated to sharing important films, encouraging discussion, attracting new audiences, and preserving the cinematic heritage of the Canary Islands.
