In Tenerife, the ancient chapel of San Juan Bautista will be protected from development.
On Tenerife, environmentalists approved changes to the development plan of La Laguna to protect the ancient chapel of San Juan Bautista of the 17th century.
On the island of Tenerife, environmentalists have approved a minor change to the development plan of the city of La Laguna. The city council wants to protect the ancient chapel of San Juan Bautista, located in the Bajamar area.
Experts studied all the documents and decided that this change to the plan "will not significantly affect nature." This was even written in the local newspaper.
Local official Adolfo Cordobés says that this is an important step to preserve the chapel of San Juan Bautista, saying that it is our history and it must be protected. He added that together with experts, they decided what exactly should be preserved in the chapel, and now it will be added to the list of important sites in the city.
According to him, now the city council must approve this change to the plan so that the chapel and the area around it can be protected by law.
What exactly do they want to protect? Both inside and outside: the roof, walls, cross, and niche.
This chapel was built in the 17th century on the land of the Tabares family, near the San Juan River.
