A foreign national was arrested in Tenerife on suspicion of abandoning his child after the minor, who initially claimed to have arrived by boat, revealed he had flown into Spain with his father.

Police in Tenerife have arrested a foreign national suspected of abandoning his child. The investigation started after an undocumented minor was found, claiming to have arrived alone by boat.

Initially, the minor went to the police station with two adults who said they found him alone at a bus stop. However, officers discovered the minor had actually flown into Spain from Casablanca in early October, traveling with his father on a valid passport and visa. The minor later confirmed this himself.

Investigators believe the father planned to fly to Seville, leaving his son in Tenerife to be placed under the care of unaccompanied foreign minors. Police arrested the father at the airport as he was about to board his flight. He was with the same two men who had brought the child to the police station earlier, and who police suspect were involved in the plan.

The arrested man has been handed over to the courts and is accused of abandonment for allegedly trying to leave his son alone and vulnerable in Spain.
