In Fasnia, Spain, after 14 years of waiting, the first free public nursery school is opening, which will become part of the Guajara educational center and provide continuous public education from birth to 16 years of age.

The first public kindergarten will open in Fasnia on Tuesday! It will be free and located in the Las Eras area.

This kindergarten has been closed since 2011, but now it will become part of the Guajara educational center. There will be 39 places for children of different ages: 8 for infants up to one year old, 13 for one-year-olds, and 18 for two-year-olds.

The mayor of the city, Luis Javier González, recently visited the kindergarten, met with the educators, and checked if everything was ready for the opening.

"I met wonderful professionals who will work in this center, and I saw how everything is being prepared for the start of classes," he said.

Now, in Fasnia, it will be possible to receive free education in public institutions from birth to 16 years. "This is a great advantage for our city, because the Guajara educational center provides the opportunity to study at all these stages," the mayor emphasized.

He also noted that such a project is rare for the Canary Islands. "In Tenerife, we will be the only city where it is possible to study from 0 to 16 years in a public institution. This is a real privilege!" the mayor stated. He reminded that it is actually one large center, just located in two places – in Fasnia and Las Eras.

Thanks to the cooperation, places for toddlers are integrated into the Guajara educational center, and both institutions work as one.

The kindergarten building was built back in 2011, but it has been closed all this time. González noted that a lot of effort was put into finally opening it: "The building was ready 14 years ago, and the previous mayor worked hard on this, but could not open the kindergarten. Today, we are happy that this has happened, and especially because it will be free for families."

"We consider this a great achievement," González assured and added that the Minister of Education of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez, will be present at the opening.

The mayor hopes that this experience will be an example for other cities: "We believe that this model can be applied in other municipalities of our archipelago."
