Former San Juan de la Rambla mayor Ezequiel Domínguez announced his retirement from municipal politics after over a decade, confirming he will not run as a PSOE candidate in the 2027 local elections.

Ezequiel Domínguez, the former mayor of San Juan de la Rambla, announced yesterday on social media that he will not run as a PSOE candidate in the 2027 local elections. This means he is stepping down from municipal politics after more than ten years.

Even though the elections are still two years away, Domínguez felt it was important to share his decision now. He believes that such a significant choice "needs to be announced early enough to build a new, strong, and fresh plan ready for future challenges." He thinks it would be almost impossible to do this just a few months before an election.

However, he will continue to serve as an opposition councilor until his current term ends. He stated he will do so "with the same dedication I have always shown to San Juan de la Rambla." After that, he will retire from local politics, a decision he shared with his party's local leaders a few months ago.

Domínguez started his career in local politics in 2011. Over the years, he has been a councilor in both the ruling party and the opposition, and he also served as mayor. In the 2023 elections, he received the most votes, but a deal between CC, AUP-Sí se puede, and PP stopped him from continuing as mayor.

Looking Back

Domínguez views his time in politics positively. He said he is proud of several "fights" he undertook to improve the town. These include working with residents to improve access to and from the La Rambla neighborhood, a project he sees as "crucial" for connecting and securing that area and the wider municipality. He also highlighted the purchase and renovation of Casa Oramas, which will become the town's first rural hotel in a special location. Another initiative he mentioned was his involvement in the early stages of transforming Las Aguas and securing funding for the future San José cultural center, a place for all residents to enjoy art and culture.
