Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más Bring Havana to Canaries
Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más, successors to the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, will bring their "Live in Havana Tour" to the Canary Islands on January 8 in Tenerife and January 9 in Gran Canaria as part of their extensive tour across Spain and Germany.
Imagine strolling through Havana's cobblestone streets, where music fills every corner. This is the spirit of the "Live in Havana Tour," a musical journey presented by Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más. They are the successors to the legendary Buena Vista Social Club and will perform in the Canary Islands soon. Catch them on January 8 in Tenerife at the Adeje Auditorium (8:00 PM), and the next day, January 9, in Gran Canaria at the Teatro Víctor Jara in Vecindario, Santa Lucía de Tirajana (8:30 PM).
Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más was created to keep the musical heritage of the Buena Vista Social Club alive. More than 25 years ago, the original Buena Vista Social Club brought together around twenty veteran Cuban musicians from the 1950s, bringing them back into the spotlight in the late 1990s. Named after a Havana social club, this iconic group revived the careers of legends like Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, and Omara Portuondo. Their global success sparked a rebirth for traditional Cuban music, showcasing its rich and authentic sound to the world.
The legacy of second chances continues with Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más. They are coming to the Canary Islands to rekindle that spirit with fresh voices and the same vibrant energy. This 16-member ensemble features some original musicians from the legendary Cuban group alongside a new generation of artists. Together, they preserve the heart of son, bolero, and guaracha music. Key performers include vocalists Carlos Calunga and Lázaro Villa, percussionist Ángel Terry, saxophonist Javier Zalba, trumpeter Roberto García, trombonist Alberto Muñoz, double bassist Fernando Arévalo, and violinist Osiris Valdés. The group is led by musical director Pancho Amat, widely regarded as the world's finest tres player.
The "Live in Havana Tour" by Estrellas de Buena Vista y Más will visit many cities across Spain and Germany. The tour begins on January 3 in Murcia, followed by Valencia on January 4. After their Canary Islands dates, they will perform in Zaragoza (January 10), Lleida (January 11), Gijón (January 23), Santiago de Compostela (January 24), Vigo (January 25), and Madrid (January 27). In between these Spanish dates, the group will also travel to Germany for shows in Munich (January 18), Berlin (January 19), and Hamburg (January 20).
