Espacio La Granja to Host Intergenerational Performance 'Twelve Square Meters of Skin'
Espacio La Granja in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the intergenerational performance Twelve Square Meters of Skin this Friday, an audiovisual production by La Rueda Teatro Social that explores how identity and body perception evolve with age.
This week, Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s cultural scene explores the connection between our life experiences and how we perceive our bodies. This Friday at 8:00 p.m., Espacio La Granja—managed by the regional government—will host Twelve Square Meters of Skin, a performance that invites the audience to reflect on how our emotional lives evolve over time.
Created by La Rueda Teatro Social, a Madrid-based collective active since 2009, the production moves away from traditional theater to adopt an audiovisual, laboratory-style format. Directed by Fernando Gallego and Laura Presa Fox, the show uses cameras to project the performers' personal stories onto the stage. The cast, featuring three younger and three older actors, uses this technology to examine how identity, sexual orientation, and our experience of pleasure change as we age.
The play is part of a growing movement in social theater that turns the stage into a space for intergenerational conversation. By contrasting different perspectives on the human body, the project encourages the audience to challenge the social expectations that shape how we feel in our own skin at different stages of life. Tickets are available through the venue’s website or at the box office.
