Enrique Acosta Dorta’s Portrait Series Preserves Tacoronte’s Living History
Photographer Enrique Acosta Dorta is launching his second annual portrait exhibition at the Tacoronte House of Culture on June 5th, featuring unedited images of local figures to preserve the town's living history.
Using photography to preserve local history has become a vital way to strengthen the community in the Canary Islands. Researcher and photographer Enrique Acosta Dorta is returning to the Tacoronte House of Culture on June 5th with a new portrait series that documents the town’s people. Now in its second year, this project is more than just an art show; it serves as a living archive of the town's identity.
The exhibition will be on display in the Inocencio Hall until June 26th, featuring over twenty portraits of people born in or living in Tacoronte. To ensure the subjects look authentic, Acosta Dorta has avoided digital editing, opting for a natural style. The featured individuals come from a wide range of fields, including science, education, literature, film, and medicine. Notable subjects include biologist José García Casanova, coach Marcos Justo, gynecologist Juan Reyes, biologist and photographer Belén Caro, animator Adrián Miguel Delgado, and poet Sophia Hidalgo Hernández.
This collection continues a project started last year, which previously featured thirty local figures, including musician Cruz Cafuné, scientist Basilio Valladares, actor Nacho Almenar, teacher Charo Febles, designer Expedita Hernández, meteorologist Vicky Palma, athlete Francis Jorge, sculptor Carlos Marrero, and poet Iván Cartaya.
The opening ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM on June 5th at the Plaza del Cristo venue, with many of the subjects and their families expected to attend. The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Acosta Dorta hopes this visual record will help the public recognize the people who shape the character of Tacoronte today, with the potential to add more portraits in the future.
