Endesa is investing €385,000 to strengthen the electricity supply in the north of Tenerife. This project aims to protect the power grid in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Tacoronte, areas where the current infrastructure is particularly vulnerable to bad weather.
The centerpiece of the plan is a new electrical "ring" connecting the La Atalaya and Los Sauces substations. By installing a double medium-voltage line, the system will be more resilient, allowing technicians to respond to power failures faster and minimize outages. The project also includes burying over two kilometers of power lines and creating nearly a kilometer of new conduits, specifically in the El Socorro, Cruz Chica, and Valle Guerra areas.
Additionally, the Las Garimbas substation is being upgraded with new technology. Once complete, these improvements are expected to provide more reliable service for over 160,000 users. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to modernize power networks to meet rising energy demands and better withstand strong winds and heavy rain.
Work is already underway, with the new lines scheduled to be operational before the end of the summer. This initiative is designed to create a more robust grid that can reliably serve the region, despite the challenging local terrain and weather conditions.
