Endesa Invests €2.09 Million to Stabilize Tenerife’s Power Grid
Endesa’s grid division, e-distribución, has invested €2.09 million to upgrade Tenerife’s electrical infrastructure, improving service reliability for over 175,000 customers by automating and reinforcing the medium-voltage network.
Tenerife’s electricity grid has become significantly more stable over the past three years thanks to a €2.09 million investment by e-distribución, the grid division of Endesa. According to the company’s latest report, the primary goal was to "close" seven electrical loops. This engineering technique provides transformer centers with a backup power route, allowing the grid to recover much faster if a fault occurs in the medium-voltage network.
This setup, which relies on automation and remote management, is essential for maintaining a reliable power supply on an island. These upgrades have already improved service for over 175,000 customers across Tenerife.
The improvements were tailored to the specific needs of each area:
- In the North: In Los Silos, €420,000 was spent to install 1.4 kilometers of new cabling. In Tacoronte, €385,000 was invested to move over two kilometers of power lines underground, benefiting 160,000 customers. La Matanza received €210,000 for 860 meters of new underground lines, and in Garachico, a €290,000 project connected transformer centers near the pier and the vocational training area, helping 5,000 residents.
- Metropolitan and Southern Areas: In La Laguna, €340,000 was spent on upgrades near Cercado Mesa and Cruz Chica, serving 4,000 users. Puerto de la Cruz saw a €203,000 investment focused on the historic center and Punta Brava. Finally, in Arona, a €250,000 project connected Las Galletas and El Fraile with an additional kilometer of underground conduit.
By completing these projects, the company aims to make the power grid less vulnerable to unexpected outages and better equipped to handle current energy demands.
