Endesa Completes Grid Upgrade to Boost Power Reliability in Garachico
Endesa’s subsidiary, e-distribución, has completed a €290,000 project to close the electrical ring in Garachico, Tenerife, significantly enhancing grid reliability and reducing the risk of power outages for local residents.
Keeping critical infrastructure running on islands is a major challenge, especially in towns with difficult terrain like Garachico. To address this, Endesa’s subsidiary, e-distribución, has completed a project to "close the electrical ring" in the Tenerife town, significantly reducing the risk of power outages.
The €290,000 project, which began last November, involved connecting the FP Garachico and El Muelle transformer substations. By creating this loop, electricity can now reach the same point through different paths. If a fault occurs in one section of the grid, the system can automatically reroute power, keeping the lights on for the town’s nearly 5,000 residents and local businesses.
This new setup also makes the grid much easier to manage. Maintenance crews can now perform routine repairs without cutting off power to homes and businesses. This flexibility is vital for maintaining the stability of public services and supporting the local tourism industry, both of which rely on a constant energy supply.
By moving away from a single-line system, Garachico has significantly strengthened its power grid. This upgrade brings the town’s infrastructure up to modern standards, ensuring a more reliable and resilient energy supply for the future of northwestern Tenerife.
