Puerto de la Cruz has resolved a conflict with a hundred non-civil servant workers.
The government of Puerto de la Cruz has settled a long-standing labor dispute with a hundred non-civil servant employees by allocating funds for performance bonuses and promising a fair reward system in 2026.
In the city of Puerto de la Cruz, a long-standing conflict with a hundred non-civil servant employees has finally been resolved. The city authorities, led by Leopoldo Afonso (from the People's Party), have reached an agreement with the employees to avoid court proceedings. The dispute began in 2023, when Marco González (from the PSOE) was the mayor.
After several months of negotiations, the authorities and employee representatives found common ground. This means that about a hundred people working for the city under a labor contract can rest assured about their future.
An important step was the allocation of 100,000 euros from the budget at the last city council meeting. This money will go towards performance bonuses for these employees in 2024 and 2025.
Leopoldo Afonso's team says this is a big step forward in relations between the authorities and employees. It is a recognition of how much these people do for the city. In addition, the mayor's office plans to include enough money in the 2026 budget to ensure that both civil servants and hired employees receive performance bonuses. The mayor assures that this will make the system fairer and more transparent.
Leopoldo Afonso emphasized that this agreement shows that the authorities value stability and recognize the importance of employees for the normal functioning of the city. "This conflict has been going on for too long, and we are glad that we were able to resolve it through negotiations and responsibility," he added.
The Councillor for Finance and Personnel Management, Pedro Antonio Campos, noted that the main thing was to find a fair solution for the employees, taking into account their needs, but not forgetting about stability and dialogue. "This agreement not only closes a page of tension, but also opens a new era of stability and trust. In 2026, we plan to create a stable system that will reward the productivity and efforts of all employees based on clear criteria to ensure fairness," Campos added.
With this decision, the Puerto de la Cruz City Hall confirms its commitment to building a fair, modern labor relations system that will ensure quality services for the city's residents.
