On Tenerife, the bridge near the hospital is being urgently repaired due to the threat of debris falling onto the tram tracks.
The pedestrian bridge near the university hospital in Tenerife will be urgently repaired to prevent debris from falling onto the tram tracks.
The Cabildo of Tenerife (something like our regional state administration) has announced that it will improve the safety of the pedestrian bridge on the TF-194 road (the La Cuesta-Taco road). This bridge connects the Torres de Taco area with the Canary Islands University Hospital (HUC).
The repair will be carried out by Señalizaciones Villar. It will cost over €96,000 and take two months. The local authorities of La Laguna have been requesting this for a long time.
Dámaso Arteaga, who is responsible for roads on the island, explained that the work was decided to be done urgently. The fact is that the railings on the bridge need to be replaced so that debris does not fall on the tram tracks.
According to Ángel Chinea, Councilor for Works and Infrastructure of La Laguna, there was already an incident a month or two ago when a piece of debris fell on the tracks. Therefore, the municipality appealed to the Cabildo with a request for urgent repairs.
The councilor explained that the bridge is concrete, and a piece of the concrete fence once fell off. A regular fence was installed instead, but this is dangerous because many people walk across the bridge, and even scooters and motorcycles ride on it. Therefore, posts were placed at the beginning of the bridge to prevent them from entering.
The Cabildo also reminded that the road near the TF-5 interchange with the university hospital is currently being repaired. They plan to spend €300,000 there and finish in three months.
Arteaga added that they want to make the area more convenient for people: connect the pedestrian ramp near the TF-5 with sidewalks, make a new bus stop, and divert rainwater.
The authorities emphasized that this is all part of a large plan to restore and improve roads on the island. Recently, the Cabildo announced a tender for the development of 38 road improvement projects.
