Emergency Crews Stabilize Wildfire Near Arafo in Tenerife
Emergency services in Tenerife successfully stabilized a wildfire near Arafo on Saturday evening, preventing further damage in an area still recovering from last year's major blazes.
Tenerife was on edge this Saturday after a fire broke out in Arafo, an area still recovering from last summer’s devastating wildfires. Thanks to a swift response from emergency teams, the fire was quickly stabilized, preventing any serious damage.
The blaze started shortly before 8:00 p.m. near the Chivisaya viewpoint, located along the TF-523 road that connects Arafo to the mountain summits. After drivers reported seeing flames and smoke, a coordinated team—including the Canary Islands Police, local police from Arafo and Candelaria, the Civil Guard, the fire department, and the Cabildo’s forest brigade (Brifor)—rushed to the scene.
Containing the fire quickly was vital, especially given the current high risk of forest fires caused by unusually hot weather across the islands. Because this area is very close to where the major 2023 fire began, any sign of smoke is treated with extreme caution. By late evening, authorities confirmed the fire was under control and in the final stages of being extinguished, bringing relief to a community still sensitive to the threat of wildfires.
