Emergency Crews Contain Wildfire in Tenerife’s Masca Ravine
Emergency services successfully contained a wildfire in Tenerife’s Masca ravine on Saturday, utilizing aerial support and ground crews to protect nearby homes from the blaze.
Emergency services were tested once again this Saturday by a fire in the Masca ravine, located in the Tenerife municipality of Buenavista del Norte. According to 112 and the Tenerife Island Council, the blaze broke out in an area known as Lomo del Medio, where the rugged terrain made it difficult for ground crews to reach the flames.
The operation began around 12:00 p.m. and focused on a patch of reeds located just 50 meters from residential homes. Because of this proximity, the primary strategy was to contain the fire’s perimeter immediately to ensure it did not spread toward the houses.
Due to the challenging landscape, the Island Council launched a coordinated response. Two helicopters were deployed to support forest brigades (Brifor), local firefighters, and technical and medical teams. In such difficult terrain, aerial support is essential to prevent small fires from escalating during the hottest parts of the day.
While authorities report that the situation is currently under control and not considered extreme, the response team remains on-site. They are keeping a close watch on the area to secure the perimeter and prevent any flare-ups. Officials have urged the public to stay away from the area and to follow all instructions provided by emergency personnel.
