Emergency Crews Contain Fire Near Tenerife Industrial Zone
Emergency services in Tenerife successfully contained a brush fire near the Montaña de El Socorro on Wednesday after a controlled waste burn spiraled out of control, threatening a nearby industrial zone.
Emergency services in Güímar, Tenerife, acted quickly on Wednesday to prevent a major fire from spreading from the base of Montaña de El Socorro into a nearby industrial area.
According to local reports, the fire began when a group from a local rehabilitation center started a waste burn. The fire quickly spiraled out of control due to weather conditions, sending a thick plume of smoke across the TF-1 South Highway and affecting driver visibility.
This incident highlights the risks in areas where natural landscapes meet industrial zones, which require constant monitoring. Because a Tenerife Consortium fire station was located nearby, crews were able to reach the scene quickly and stop the flames before they could reach the Valle de Güímar warehouses or spread further up the mountainside.
A large team responded to the scene, including local police from Güímar and Arafo, as well as Civil Guard patrols from Güímar and Candelaria. While authorities managed traffic and secured the area, firefighters worked to cool the ground and ensure no hidden hotspots remained.
The event serves as a reminder of the strict regulations surrounding the use of fire on rural land. Given the islands' challenging terrain and climate, even unintentional negligence can easily lead to a large-scale emergency.
