A 73-year-old woman is in serious condition after falling into the water at Puerto Colón in Adeje this Sunday. The incident has renewed concerns regarding safety for mobility vehicle users in busy tourist areas.

The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. when the woman lost control of her electric mobility scooter and fell into the sea. Nearby boaters acted quickly, pulling her from the water before emergency services arrived.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) stabilized the woman, who was suffering from a severe near-drowning, before rushing her to Hospiten Sur for urgent treatment. Local police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control.

The incident highlights the risks faced by users of mobility vehicles in areas where pedestrians, nautical activities, and machinery share the same space, prompting calls for better signage and safety measures at the islands' piers.
