Elderly Man in Critical Condition Following Violent Robbery Attempt in Tenerife

Safety in popular tourist areas is back in the spotlight following a violent incident in Arona, Tenerife, this Wednesday. An elderly man is in critical condition after being attacked in the center of Los Cristianos, highlighting the vulnerability of older residents to street crime.

The attack occurred near Calle Asomada del Morisco, just off Avenida Juan Carlos I. According to reports, a man attempted to snatch a woman’s purse. During the struggle, the woman’s companion suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and required emergency medical intervention at the scene.

Emergency responders from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) successfully stabilized the man using advanced CPR before rushing him to the hospital. A large police presence, including the National, Local, and Autonomous Police, arrived shortly after to secure the area and begin an investigation to identify the attacker.

This incident has reignited concerns about the safety of residents in busy tourist hubs, where criminals often target the elderly in crowded spaces. As police continue their search for the perpetrator, the victim’s condition remains a major concern, underscoring the severe physical and emotional toll that such violent crimes can take.
