A 65-year-old man has been arrested by local police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for stealing an iPad worth €1,100. He was found trying to hide the device in a garage where he lives in Santa María del Mar. The iPad had gone missing from a tram stop near the Conservatory of Music in the city.
The owner of the iPad is a well-known foreign musician who was performing on the island. The tablet contained all the materials for her concerts. She reported the theft to the Local Police from her hotel in the capital. With the police's help and by using tracking apps, they were able to figure out where the iPad had likely gone.
All the clues pointed to a residential area in Santa María del Mar. A police patrol went to the area with the musician to help find the iPad. While questioning neighbours, officers noticed a man hanging around. When they approached him, he admitted to taking the iPad and said he had hidden it, along with some accessories, in a nearby garage. The musician identified her iPad, and steps were taken for its return.
The man was taken to the police station, where legal proceedings were initiated. He has since been handed over to the judicial authorities.
