Road safety in hilly urban areas is back under scrutiny following a serious accident in Santa Úrsula, Tenerife, this Saturday. According to the Canary Islands' emergency services (CECOES 112), an 82-year-old man remains in the hospital with a guarded prognosis after his car plunged onto the roof of a building near the Carretera Nueva La Corujera.

The accident occurred at 6:52 p.m. and triggered a complex rescue operation. Firefighters from Tenerife were essential in stabilizing the overturned vehicle and safely extracting the driver. Once freed, the man was treated by medical teams for severe injuries caused by the impact.

Accidents in areas with steep slopes are a recurring challenge for emergency responders, who must manage difficult rescues while providing urgent medical care. The operation involved a coordinated effort between the Local Police, the Canary Police, the Civil Guard, and Civil Protection to secure the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if the crash was caused by external factors, a mechanical failure, or a medical emergency while driving.
